The Young Fans of Salgaocar SC

The green and white proudly they wore, all 228 of them, as they walked accompanied by their teachers to the East stand to watch their favourite team, Salgaocar SC take on local rivals Dempo SC in a Goan derby in the Inaugural match of the I-League.

‘The boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was a good chance for them to come and watch their icons play. It’s a good initiative by Salgaocar SC to promote soccer amongst today’s youngsters and the boys can’t wait till the 29th to come for the second match’ , said Fr. Cedric, Vice - Principal of Loyola High School, one of the schools partnered with Salgaocar SC on a long term youth development program.
 
Mr. Bharat, Physical Education Sir at Mae dos Pobres High School Nuvem firmly believes that football in India has a big future. ‘Earlier, football couldn’t be considered as a career choice as the money was absent, but today, clubs are paying big money for football players. It’s the right time to promote football amongst todays youngsters, and Salgaocar SC have certainly taken the step in the right direction. The response in the school has been overwhelming; a lot of students have shown the willingness to come for matches.’
 
Nelger Serrao, student of Loyola High School was ecstatic at the opportunity being provided by the club. ‘When it was announced in school that boys interested in going for Salgaocar matches should give their names to the Vice-Principal, I immediately jumped on to the chance. The fact that transport is provided by the club makes it possible for me to go for matches.’
