Salgaocar's lift U-16 cup

Salgaocar’s Under-16 romped home to victory by lifting the Mumbai Football Academy U-16 One Day Tournament held at Taleigao Ground organised by Mumbai Football Academy and Goa United Sports Academy, Calangute.

The teams that participated in the One day tournament on October 15, 2009 were Bombay Scotish Club, Brazilian Football Academy, Cathedral & John High School, Dempo Sports Club, Nasik FA, Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao, Salgaocar Sports Club, St Pios High School, Wilfred Leisure SC and Goa United Football Academy held at Dr Remigio Pinto Ground, Taleigao. Salgaocar Sports Club Under-16 in the group stages beat Nasik FA and Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao. In the semis Salgaocar Sports Club beat Agaisaim based Beto’s Brazilian Football Academy (BFA) in the tie breaker. Joel, Salgaocar Sports Club goalkeeper also, the Goa goalkeeper saved 3 out of 5 penalties. The match at full time was 1-1 with Raymond scoring for Salgaocars and Bubloo Deshpande scoring for BFA. Penalties for Salgaocar’s were scored by Raymond, Nixon, Phelister, James Fernandes. In the final Salgaocar’s coached by Augustine Antao defeated Goa United Sports Academy coached by FaustoLobo with a margin of 2-0. For Salgaocar Raymond scored in the 8th minute will Nixon Casthana scored in the 17th minute in the finals. Salgaocar’s yesterday lifted the same title yesterday in the Under-14 category. Augustine Antao, Salgaocar’s Under-16 coach while celebrating with the boys said, “It was the determination of the boys to perform and put all the energy to survive five games and the entire day to lift the title.
